NCIS Hawaii: Fans cautious over first look at Jane Tennant ‘Lot to live up to’

Vanessa Lachey will portray the CBS franchise’s first female Special Agent in Charge to lead her own show in the brand new NCIS spin-off. Airing next month, the first teaser trailer for NCIS: Hawaii has given fans their first taste of the action.

NCIS fans have been given their first look at the brand new Special Agent heading up the Pearl Harbor team, Jane Tennant.

Actress and TV host Vanessa Lachey steps into the role, following in the footsteps of Leroy Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon), G Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and Dwayne Pride (Scott Bakula).

“When anyone on my team gets in trouble,” Tennant promises in the new trailer, “I’m the first call.”

The first footage has given fans their first look at the new cast, which also includes Yasmine Al-Bustami and Jason Antoon.

Lead star Lachey revealed the trailer on her personal Twitter page, promising a full look at the new series is on its way soon.

She said: “Jane Tennant reporting for duty! Here’s an exclusive look at the first @NCISHawaiiCBS trailer that will air tonight.

“Not gonna lie, I cried when I saw it, but happy tough kick ass tears! Haha. #NCIShawaii premieres September 20th.”

The third spin-off in the ongoing NCIS franchise, NCIS: Hawaii is one of the most hotly anticipated TV events of this year.

However, fans are going in cautiously optimistic as the series is set to go in a bold new direction.

“This new chapter of NCIS has a lot to live up to,” one fan responded on Twitter.

“I’m willing to give Agent Tennant and her team a fair shake to see what they can do.”

Another viewer echoed their thoughts, saying: “Has A LOT to live up to but I cannot wait!!”

While a third viewer said: “A female NCIS team leader…another glass ceiling shattered.”

Other fans have already spotted some similarities with CBS’s recent reboot of Hawaii Five-0.

This action-packed revamp starring Daniel Dae Kim came to an end in 2020, but could lay the groundwork for the new Pacific-based spin-off.

“This actually looks pretty darn good,” one fan said in reply to Lachey’s new post.

“I hope that many won’t compare it to H50 but some will though, but to me it’s got a way different feeling from that one.”

Hawaii Five-0 even crossed over with the NCIS universe on occasion, and some are hoping the new spin-off could be a way to revive the series once again.

In the meantime, fans are clearly excited to see the series introduce a brand new task f***e when NCIS bursts onto the screens again next month.

NCIS Hawaii premieres Monday, September 20 on CBS.
