In the season 18 finale, titled Rule 91, things take a deadly turn for Gibbs after he realises the k11111er he is tracking is keeping tabs on him and members of his team.

The Special Agent suspects the k*****r knows who they are and, before long, Gibbs’ boat, named Rule 91, is blown up.

The sh******ng episode last saw Gibbs swimming away from the wreckage, leaving fans desperate to know the outcome.

Executive producer Steven D Binder explained to TV Insider: “It’s not clear what state he’s in.”

However, the producer noted that Gibbs is angrier than ever, especially since Rule 91 has been destroyed, a boat he spent a decade handcrafting himself.

“[The k*****er has] opened up a serious can of whoop-a**,” Binder added.

Binder also teases that Gibbs’ anger could be his downfall as his issues have plagued him in the past.

Now the boss is on suspension for assaulting a perpetrator, he is in further danger of destroying his career completely.

“Even if he were to go back to his former life at NCIS, his deeper issues don’t just go away,” the producer remarked.

Though Binder pondered whether Gibbs was the kind of person even capable of moving on.

And, if he was, how would the agent cope without his job?

“We know his heart is pure, but Gibbs has been a troubled soul for a long time.”
Gibbs’ past trauma and the hunt for a ki*****er won’t be the only thing the agent has to contend with in season 19 as a new member joins the team full time.

FBI Special Agent Alden Parker, portrayed by The Good Fight’s Gary Cole, will be joining NCIS as a new series regular.

However, Binder confirms the character won’t be taking Gibbs’ place but he will cause issues amongst the team as he temporarily fills in.

“He’s going to cross lines that will make you both love and hate him,” the producer teased.

So how will Gibbs cope with Parker acting as his temporary replacement?

NCIS season 19 will premiere on September 20 on CBS in the USA.
